Making a Difference

Good food is for everyone. And doing good feels good.

From our inception, Open Kitchen has been inspired and taken meaningful actions to make a difference in our communities through cooking and dining experiences.

DC Central Kitchen Culinary Job Training

During our time in the Washington DC Metro area (2009-2016), we were a proud supporter of the nation’s first and leading community kitchen, DC Central Kitchen.  Open Kitchen’s chefs participated in DC Central Kitchen’s Culinary Job Training that prepares adults with high barriers to employment for culinary careers and we provided internships for program graduates.

Santa Feans Caring + Cooking Project

Between March 25-27, Chef Hue-Chan Karels teamed up with Bobby Beals to organize a group of five concerned citizens. In just 48 short hours, we shopped, cooked, packed, and delivered 588 healthy meals with immune-boosting ingredients for 22 households in the Santa Fe area.
