Did you know that Thai Food is about so much more than Pad Thai and Green Curry? Join Open Kitchen’s Guest Chef Derek Rugsaken and learn to make 3 signature dishes of the Isaan (Northeastern) region of Thailand: Sticky Rice, Papaya Salad and Marinated Grilled Chicken, all from scratch using equipment you already have in your kitchen.  Come explore the vibrant, spicy, herbaceous flavors of Isaan with us in this specialized cooking class.

Khao Neow

Individually-portioned sticky rice as a foundation for your Isaan meal (gf, df)


Shredded green papaya, carrot and tomato with chile, fish sauce, lime juice, sugar and peanuts (gf, df)

Gai Yaang

Chicken breasts and thighs marinated in Thai sauce blend with sugar, aromatics and spices, grilled to perfection (gf, df)

Nam Prik Noom

Roasted Green Chile dipping sauce with fish sauce, garlic and cilantro (gf, df)

What to Expect: This is a hands-on, engaging, and intimate cooking class.  You will have the opportunity to cook alongside Open Kitchen Chef Team, dine on all the dishes you’ve made, and have fun.  You will experience a memorable day at Open Kitchen among a community of friends with recipes to take back to your home kitchen.


*The Food of Northeastern Thailand Cooking Class is a publicly offered event. At Open Kitchen, we follow the related rules and regulations regarding COVID-safety. The cooking classes are limited in the number of guests so we can provide the recommended space and safe environment for everyone. The maximum guests for this cooking class is 16 people. The Food of Northeastern Thailand Cooking Class is $115 plus tax per person

All guests taking our PUBLIC cooking classes will be required to show proof of vaccination upon checking in for class. For those who are not vaccinated, we will also accept proof of negative results from a COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of the event.

*Registered Classes are non-refundable unless related to COVID and Health-related issues – we will hold a credit for 60 days.
